Answer 1

Students should recognize that the United States and Britain had much in common, though good essays should mention some of the problems that Roosevelt endured in convincing Congress to assist the British. The larger problem was between the western nations and the Soviet Union. Churchill, in particular, did not trust Stalin but the nations still had to work together. Students should trace the evolution of the Allied relationship through the early stages of American involvement, through the Teheran and Yalta conferences and then into postwar issues, including the Potsdam Conference. Good essays should describe how both the Soviets and the western nations saw the postwar world and the actions each side took to bring that vision to reality.
