Students should cite the significant increase in the nation's white population, which put pressure on Indian lands in the West. This process was facilitated by both the states and the national government. Good students will cite the example of William Henry Harrison and his actions as Indiana governor. Finally, dividing the tribes through material incentives, pan-Indianism, as advocated by leaders such as Tecumseh, proved impossible to sustain.
