When working with poor clients, the social worker
◦ Needs to avoid discussing the client's view about being poor
◦ Explain to the client that the existing welfare polices and eligibility standards are for the client's own good
◦ Should expect the client to have a working knowledge of local, state, and federal programs that may be of assistance
◦ Must try to understand the emotional and mental state of the person who is poor
