Answer to Question 1

Children's fears are linked to both age and level of cognitive development. As children mature, with increased exposure to objects/situations, they learn not to fear things such as loud noises, etc. Children learn that not all loud noises mean danger and they become better able to discriminate stimuli initially associated with fear. Chronological age may not be considered alone in this paradigm, as it may not necessarily correspond to a specific cognitive level of development, and fears typically reflect cognitive development rather than chronological age.
