A solution of potassium permanganate was standardized by titration of a solution prepared by dissolving 0.268 g of pure sodium oxalate in approximately 25 mL of distilled water. A 31.4 mL volume of titrant was required to reach the end-point. The reaction is:

2 MnO4- + 5 C2O42- + 16 H+→ 2 Mn2+ + 10 CO2 + 8 H2O
