You are transporting a high-priority trauma patient. Local protocols state that you are to transport trauma patients to the local area Level I trauma center unless you are more than 20 miles away, in which case you are to transport to the nearest emergency department. If the scene is 17 miles from the Level I trauma center but you've been on scene 20 minutes, where should you transport your patient?
