A book publisher initially prices both hardback books and paperback books at $50 a book and sells the same number of hardbacks and paperbacks (180 each). The hardback book comes out first, followed by the paperback. Each book costs $9 to produce.
When the publisher increases the price for hardbacks to $55.00, quantity sold decreases to 171 and when the publisher decreases the price for paperbacks to $45.00, quantity sold increases to 216. Price discrimination ________ (increases/decreases) the publisher's profit by ________.
