The most important goal is to change a person's behavior. Therapies to resolve earlier childhood trauma or experiences that maintain the paraphilic behavior are helpful. Other therapies include empathy training, relapse prevention therapies, group therapy, and aversion therapy. All of these are designed to change behavior.
