Answer to Question 1

a . Suicide usually begins with a perceived discrepancy between reality (a person's current circumstances) and some set of expectations or other standards. People who are suicidal do not feel that they are living up to their potential (or to the standards that they would like to live up to), and tend to feel miserable and hopeless about the future.
b. Self-awareness tends to be very high, and very aversive. Committing suicide can in some cases be interpreted as a means by which to escape from painful self-awareness.
c. In terms of emotionality, those who are suicidal tend to feel numb and emotionally disconnected rather than sad or angry.
d. They also tend to be focused on low levels of meaning (which helps them to stay emotionally disconnected and to more readily engage in suicidal behavior).
