i. Empathy: People high in empathy help more
ii. Mood: Positive emotions tend to promote helping, although data ate somewhat mixed (negative emotions seem to promote helping in certain situations)
iii. Belief in a just world: People who score high on this measure tend NOT to help others (but rather to blame them for their plight)
iv. Gender: Males and females tend to help in different kinds of situations
b. Situational
i. Kin: People tend to help others with whom they share genes (especially others who could theoretically pass on their genes)
ii. Similarity: People tend to help others who are similar to them (e.g., people with a similar appearance) more than people who aren't
iii. Gender: People (both men and women) tend to help women more than men
iv. Attractiveness: Beautiful people (both male and female) tend to garner more help than other people
