Answer to Question 1

Several problems will be mentioned, including the following:
Increasing numbers of the very old, making care for the infirm more necessary.
Increasing numbers of retired individuals, whose resources could be exhausted in
taking care of the truly old.
Better health and better care insures longer survival, adding to the burden of care.
Children in their middle ages are caught between generations (sandwich), and must
provide for their parents as they launch their children
Older ages of childbearing may impact the middle age parents severely, as they are
still raising very young children with high energy and resource demands when parents
need care also.
Lower government payment for health services makes it necessary for some women
to carry extraordinary burdens of family work, paid work, and elderly care.
Increasing costs of health care.
The above list is not exhaustive. Students will have other ideas to add.
