Why is it important to be aware of defense mechanisms?
 
  a. So that we can better determine when our mental manoeuvres are useful and when they are holding us back.
  b. So that we can point out times when another person is not being honest to him or herself.
  c. So that we can create routine and predictable behavior that makes us more comfortable.
