Answer to Question 1

There are many. Suicide, drug abuse, and running away from home are a few
self-destructive acts that sexually abused teens may engage in. Further, some teens
vandalize or act violently following sexual victimization. Drug and alcohol usage,
earlier sexual activity, school suspension, and dropping out are also more common
for children who have been sexually abused. Girls are at a higher risk of pregnancy;
boys often feel ashamed of their perceived weakness and may worry about their
sexual orientation.

Answer to Question 2

The three changes and their effects are: Body changes: Rapid changes in size,
shape, and hormone levels are unsettling to the teenager. Also changes in sex
hormones and certain neurotransmitters such as MAOs trigger impulsive reactions,
which lead to risk-taking behavior. Brain changes: Immaturity of the cortex and the
activity of the limbic system alter the adolescent's perception of both pleasure and
risk and potential consequences of behavior. Social context: Adolescents who are
alienated from adults and not yet attached to families of their own are more likely to
engage in risky behaviors.
