Answer to Question 1

Child-centered programs tend to reflect the theories of Piaget, Vygotsky, Montessori,
and the Reggio Emilia approach, stressing play and individual interest as impetus
for learning. Teacher-directed programs tend to be more behavioristic in approach,
structured on a basis of reward and punishment, and focused on school readiness.

Answer to Question 2

Language shift in bilingualism refers to the tendency of children to become more
fluent in their new language than in their home language. Some children exhibit a
language shift by refusing to speak their home language, thus shifting to the new
language. Because young children are egocentric, they center on immediate
appearances and parents often want their children to learn the new language: thus,
they focus on the new language to the exclusion of the home language.

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).
