Answer to Question 1

Behaviorists believe that personality is shaped solely by environmental reinforcers
and punishers, most of which come from the primary caregivers in early childhood.
Psychoanalysts believe that unconscious processes that are shaped through
interaction with the parents, especially the mother, are the sole factors that influence
personality. The answer needs to demonstrate a clear distinction between
environment (behaviorists) and the unconscious reflexes (psychoanalysts).

Answer to Question 2

The answer should clearly identify the differences in the ways that mothers typically
respond as compared to fathers. An ideal answer will recognize that the differences
provide a well-balanced environment for the child as long as one parent's way of
playing or caring for the child does not dominate. It should be noted that single
mothers and single fathers are able to provide an equally well-rounded environment.
