Answer to Question 1

Responses should include the father's role in helping the mother-to-be stay healthy,
ensuring good nutrition, and avoiding drugs and alcohol. A father can also help
minimize stress in the mother's life, keeping cortisol levels low.

Answer to Question 2

The stages are germinal, embryonic, and fetal. At least 60 percent of germinal
organisms fail to grow or implant and thus do not survive. About 20 percent of
embryos are aborted spontaneously, usually because of chromosomal
abnormalities. About 5 percent of all fetuses are aborted spontaneously before
viability at 22 weeks or are stillborn.
