Answer to Question 1

Emerging adulthood is the period between late teens and mid- to late twenties when individuals are not adolescents but are not yet fully adults. Rites of passage are rituals marking initiation into adulthood. In Western society, rites of passage are less formalized and hard to identify. In non-Western societies, there is more evidence of rites of passage rituals and they have not changed much over time. Older adults lead young people through the same rites they themselves experienced years earlier. Some tribal cultures mark the transition to adulthood in public ways so that the whole community can witness it.
