This trend appears to be continuing into the twenty-first century. In 2004, births to older women were on the rise. Among women aged 30 to 34, for example, the birth rate was 95.5; among women aged 35 to 39, the birth rate was 45.4; and among women in their 40s, the birth rate was 9.0
