Answer to Question 1

The student should assert that the costs of raising children are economic, physical and emotional. It is estimated the cost of raising a middle-class child to the age of 18 is 226,920. The financial costs to raise children or the loss of wages to devote time to them are called opportunity costs. Children consume a considerable amount of time and energy. Exhaustion, anxiety, and stress are common complaints of parents. The rewards of raising children are intrinsic. Children bring great joy and pride to parents. Children continue the family legacy and can provide comfort to their parents in their old age.
