Answer to Question 1

Answer: Photography serves a documentary function and is used to preserve and record important events and to create portraits.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Until the late 1960s, color photography was largely ignored by fine art photographers because it was associated with advertising. Until the late 1960s, color could only be processed in commercial labs, and color photographs could not be controlled as easily as black-and-white images. In the 1970s, color photography was made easier to control, and it began to be used by fine art photographers.
