Answer to Question 1

There is often a shortage of available marriageable men, particularly in inner-city urban areas. With jobs moving to the suburbs from the urban areas, urban minority males face high rates of unemployment. Suburban jobs are often difficult to get to because public transportation is limited. Together with racism and discrimination, many minority males living in the inner cities experience poverty, which significantly reduces the pool of men eligible for marriage.
