Suppose an auto manufacturer states that their car goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 10 seconds on average, and you suspect that time is longer.
 a. Set up the null and alternative hypotheses to test this claim.
  b. Explain how you know which is the null hypothesis and which is the alternative hypothesis.

a. H0:  = 10 seconds vs. H1:  > 10 seconds
b. The null hypothesis represents the 'status quo.' In other words, it's what you would believe unless there is sufficient evidence against it. It represents the original claim. The alternative hypothesis is what you suspect is true, and what you want to show is true by providing sufficient evidence against H0.
