Answer to Question 1

Answer to Question 2

In cluster sampling, the N individuals or items in the population are divided into several clusters so that each cluster is a representative of the entire population. A random sample of clusters is then taken, and all individuals or items in each chosen cluster are then studied. Clusters can be naturally occurring designations, such as counties, election districts, city blocks, apartment buildings, or families. Cluster sampling methods can be more cost-effective than simple random sampling methods, particularly if the population is spread over a wide geographic region. However, cluster sampling methods tend to be less efficient than both simple random sampling methods and stratified sampling methods, and often require a larger overall sample size to obtain results as precise as those obtained from the more efficient procedures.
