Suppose that for two random variables, x and y, we test H0 :  = 0 against a two-sided alternative, and we are unable to reject the null hypothesis. We could therefore conclude that there is no relationship between x and y.

Indicate whether the statement is true or false

Answer to Question 1

FALSE

Answer to Question 2

H0 : 1 = 0 against H1 : 1  0
Rejection region: t > t0.01,36 = 2.719
Test statistic: t = 4.068
Conclusion: Reject the null hypothesis. Yes, there is enough evidence at the 1 significance level to infer that the average number of hours of exercise per week and the age at death are linearly related.
