A bill of lading is the receipt and contract between the carrier and the consignor. Items frequently found on a bill of lading include:
1. Identification of the consignor, consignee, goods being shipped, place of shipment and delivery.

2. Limitations on the carrier's liability to a specified sum or specified percentage of value of the goods being shipped.

3. Exemptions from liability due to specified hazards or to special nature of the goods.
