Answer to Question 1

Anovulatory bleeding is a type of dysfunctional uterine bleeding that typically occurs during the extremes of reproductive life, puberty and near menopause. It is a type of bleeding resulting from an abnormality in the proliferative-secretory sequence in the uterus characterized by continuous estrogen stimulation that is unopposed by progesterone. Without progesterone, which is produced by the corpus luteum following ovulation, the uterus does not undergo a secretory phase and but is subject to continuous shedding from the effect of estrogen.

Answer to Question 2

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).

Many people have small pouches in their colons that bulge outward through weak spots. Each pouch is called a diverticulum. About 10% of Americans older than age 40 years have diverticulosis, which, when the pouches become infected or inflamed, is called diverticulitis. The main cause of diverticular disease is a low-fiber diet.
