Answer to Question 1

ANS: B
It is important that cell structures be stabilized before staining. If not, then the cells will be lysed when the buffer is added and thus will not adhere to the slide. Methanol in the stain fixes the cells to provide this stabilization of cell structure.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
A decreased white count is leucopenia. An elevated white count is leukocytosis. Thrombocytosis and thrombocytopenia refer to an elevated and decreased platelet count respectively.
