Answer to Question 1

ANS: C
The numeric aperture determines resolution, which is the ability to distinguish two objects closely situated to one another as distinct entities. Increasing the numeric aperture increases resolution. Lowering the condenser changes the amount of light coming through the specimen. Magnification, whether from the ocular or objective lens, or the two combined, simply makes an image larger but cannot improve resolution. Adjusting the focus controls merely makes an image sharper, but this does not increase the resolution.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
The position of the condenser is set to maximize the amount of light coming through the object; its ideal position is set when adjusting for Koehler illumination, and its ideal position is in the highest position. It should not be changed to regulate light intensity.

It is believed that the Incas used anesthesia. Evidence supports the theory that shamans chewed cocoa leaves and drilled holes into the heads of patients (letting evil spirits escape), spitting into the wounds they made. Your skin wrinkles if you stay in the bathtub a long time because the outermost layer of skin (which consists of dead keratin) swells when it absorbs water. It is tightly attached to the skin below it, so it compensates for the increased area by wrinkling. This happens to the hands and feet because they have the thickest layer of dead keratin cells.
