UNOS, the United Network for Organ Sharing, has established a national database that registers patients who need a transplant.

The MA is often responsible for key preparation steps before the specimens are collected including verifying the physician order, preparing the lab requisition, checking supplies, identifying the patient, verifying the patient preparation, and collecting the correct samples.
