Answer to Question 1

When a patient refuses the recommended course of treatment, that refusal must be documented in the patient's medical record. In some cases, physicians may choose to dismiss patients from care for noncompliance. When this is done, the physician must give proper notice to the patient and document the dismissal in the patient's chart.
