To assess visual field, the examiner should face the patient and ask him to look directly into his eyes. The examiner covers the right eye while the patient covers the left eye. The examiner moves his finger from outside of the peripheral vision into the line of vision. The patient should detect the finger about the same time as the examiner. The test is repeated with the other eye covered. The Snellen chart is not used for a visual field test.
