If the initial assessment of the patient's face, hands, and feet is positive for radiation exposure the specially trained technician will a more thorough assessment of the patient's entire body. Determining the amount and level of radiation is important in determining the level of danger to the caretaker and the level of care required for the patient. This determination precedes any other care.
