Answer to Question 1

Correct Answer: 1

Patients with a chronic illness need to learn how to manage an ongoing treatment plan even in periods of remission. The nurse should explain that the treatment plan is the reason the patient is not experiencing any symptoms and encourage the patient not to stop the plan. The nurse should not encourage the patient to stop the treatment plan by agreeing that it is a good idea or say that the plan can always be resumed if the symptoms return. The nurse should not suggest that the patient make any alterations in the treatment plan such as weaning off the plan.
