Answer to Question 1

Answer: 1

1. A fecal fat study requires that the client give a stool sample. The client is asked to eat a high-fat diet for 3 days prior to the test, if possible, so that the stool sample is valid. If there is fat in the stool, the client is having problems with absorption.
2. A liquid diet prior to this test is not necessary.
3. Refraining from eating or drinking for 12 hours is not necessary for this test.
4. Drinking barium is done in the x-ray department during an upper GI series.
