2. The culture is usually obtained in the morning, when there is more fluid in the lungs.
3. The concentration of sputum is lower throughout the day because the client is moving and coughing.
4. To obtain an accurate culture, a sputum specimen for the lungs, not from nasal secretions, is necessary.
