Answer to Question 1

Research reliable sources (especially major newspapers) to find out
what has happened in this case. Analyze whether you believe this was the most ethical
outcome. If you disagree with the outcome, develop philosophical arguments to support
the outcome you believe is most justified.

Answer to Question 2

1. Research reliable sources (such as the web site of the Department of Justice) to identify
the most recent statistics nationwide on imposition of the death penalty by race, gender,
and economic class.
2. Research reliable sources to identify the most recent statistics on imposition of the death
penalty in your own state (or a neighboring state if your state does not have the death
penalty).
3. Should this continued racial and gender disparity be sufficient to conclude that the death
penalty cannot be administered fairly and should be abolished? What could be done to
eradicate these unfair disparities?
