How would criminal justice function differently if defendants had no right to a trial by a jury of their peers, which is the situation in virtually all of the non-Common Law nations of the world?  Fully explain your response, and provide a source from the internet to support your response.

At the risk of doing too much of your homework for you, jury trials in the US account for only approximately 5% of ALL criminal dispositions. The vast majority of cases are disposed of via plea bargaining and/or dismissal. Thus, the jury system has only a small REAL impact on the criminal justice system, HOWEVER, potentially it has a HUGE impact in that if every defendant who were entitled to a jury trial requested one, the system would shut down.
