Answer to Question 1

An endoscopy is a procedure using an instrument (a scope) inserted through the nose or mouth to examine organs within the body. It can be used to examine the esophagus, stomach, or duodenum. A colonoscopy is a procedure using an instrument (a scope) that is passed through the rectum to examine the colon.

Answer to Question 2

The digital rectal exam is a medical procedure to palpate the prostate gland. A gloved finger is inserted through the rectum and is used to feel for tenderness, nodules, hardness, or enlargement. This examination is a screening test for prostate cancer and should be done yearly for men over age 40.
