Answer to Question 2

Poor drainage of aqueous humor causes a painful increase in pressure within the eye. If it is not relieved, this pressure can damage the optic nerve and result in blindness. Treatment includes use of eyedrops, which reduce the production rate of aqueous humor or increase its drainage rate. A total block of aqueous humor results in acute glaucoma, which requires creation of a drainage hole through the base of the iris.
