Answer to Question 1

Hypochondiasis refers to a patient's preoccupation with the fear that minor body sensations are indicative of a serious disease. The meaning of the word parts is as follows: hypo- means beneath, chrondr/o- means cartilage, and -iasis means abnormal condition. The area located beneath the ribs (or the cartilage of the ribs) contains the liver and the spleen. Ancient Greeks thought that these organs were the source of humors that affected different moods or mental states.

Answer to Question 2

C
Explanation: A) The turbinates are in the nose, not behind the external ear.
B) A stapedectomy removes the stapes in the middle ear, not behind the external ear.
C) Correct Mastoid/o- means mastoid process and -ectomy means surgical removal.
D) There is no such medical word.
