Answer to Question 1

The tuning fork is an instrument that, when struck at the forked end, vibrates and thus can be heard or felt.
Two types of hearing loss (conductive and perceptive) may be distinguished using a tuning fork. There are several types of tests that use a tuning fork, Weber test, Bing test, and Schwabach test, but the most commonly used test is the Rinne test.
The Rinne test compares bone conduction hearing with air conduction. After being struck, the vibrating tuning fork is held on the mastoid process until sound is no longer heard by the patient.
