Contractility allows muscles to change shape to become shorter and thicker.
With extensibility, living muscle cells can be stretched and extended. They become longer and thinner.
In excitability, muscles receive and respond to stimulation.
With elasticity, once the stretching force is removed, a living muscle cell returns to its original shape.
