Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. This condition usually appears in adolescence during periods of rapid growth. Treatment modalities may include the application of a cast, brace, traction, electrical stimulation, and/or surgery.
Lordosis is an abnormal anterior curvature of the spine. This condition may be referred to as swayback as the abdomen and buttocks protrude due to an exaggerated lumbar curvature.
Kyphosis is an exaggerated thoracic curvature producing a humpback appearance. This condition may be caused by a congenital defect, a disease process such as tuberculosis and/or syphilis, a malignancy, compression fracture, faulty posture, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, rickets, osteoporosis, or other conditions.
