Answer to Question 1

A phlebolith (literally a stone in a vein) is a calcium deposit in the wall of a vein. An appendicolith (literally a stone of the appendix) occurs in the appendix and is a mass or concretion containing calcium.

Answer to Question 2

BUN and creatinine are elevated, sodium is only slightly elevated. Elevated BUN and creatinine values support a diagnosis of renal insufficiency. Both creatinine and BUN are excreted by the kidneys and their buildup in the blood is indicative of decreased kidney function.
