Answer to Question 2

B

Feedback
A Incorrect: When children experience pain, it is not character building. This is a common pain misconception.
B Correct: When children experience pain, it is likely to interrupt sleep, appetite, and play. However, many children play despite pain, because this is normal and helps distract them from their pain. Therefore, the child should be regularly assessed for pain and treated according to her or his pain rating.
C Incorrect: It has not been demonstrated that children experience pain only because they are not focusing on something else.
D Incorrect: Children as young as 26 weeks of age have intact afferent pathways for pain transmission and respond to tissue injury with the same chemical, behavioral, and physiologic signs as an adult.
