These include physical barriers such as skin, mucous membranes, and cough reflex. Natural immunity also includes nonspecific immune cells such as phagocytes and lymphocytes. Acquired immunity is a specific immunity, triggered then a person has had prior contact with a foreign agent. This activates the humoral system (B lymphocytes) and the cell-mediated system (T lymphocytes).
