Toddlers often use food as a source of control. Forcing a toddler to eat only increases the child's sense of powerlessness. Toddlers also experience food jags, a normal phenomenon during which they will eat only certain foods. Hospitalization is a stressful experience for the toddler. It is not the time to introduce the child to new foods.
