What is the correct site for an intramuscular injection in the neonate?
 
  a. Dorsal gluteal c. Vastus lateralis

The vastus lateralis is the appropriate site for IM injection in the neonate and infants. The dorsal gluteal site cannot be used until the child is established in walking. The ventral gluteal is an alternative site in the older infant. The deltoid site is not used until young school age for immunizations.
