Human immunodeficiency virus is a serious illness that can be transmitted to the infant via body fluids.

Nipple abnormality can begin to be treated during pregnancy but may begin after birth. Many methods help flat or inverted nipples to become more erect.
Only active tuberculosis patients would be cautioned not to breast-feed.
