Offering different products to different customers is the least efficient method of expanding a product line. This method does not leverage the company's knowledge of its customers or its products. Offering a single segment multiple products is a better strategy. An example of an efficient product strategy is when an appliance company makes dishwashers for low, medium, and high-end customers. An inefficient strategy is for a high-end appliances company to offer toothpaste.
